One Of The Best Slum Lords In Detroit!
Review Date: 11/7/2007 Reviewer: Anonymous
Where do I begin? First off the rental rate for the lofts here is very affordable compared to the rest of the lofts available in the city of Detroit. After moving in I've found out exactly why that is. Before I moved in I was told that some minor issues with the loft would be fixed, which they were not. They said they would put light fixtures in the closets for me, there is actually holes in the ceilings in the closets with electrical wires hanging out. After moving in they told me they could not put light fixtures in the closets because it is a fire hazard. I would think a hole with electrical wires hanging out would be a fire hazard but I guess not. They also told me that the elevator works fine all the time and I could use it to move in. When I was moving in guess what, the elevator was NOT working. I had movers with me moving in my new furniture waiting for me to figure out if I could get it working since my loft is on the 3rd floor. I went into the office and told the on duty lady from their staff that I needed the elevator to move my furniture in. She told me she would work on it and it shouldn't take long. I waited 10 minutes and came back to find she had left for the day!! The movers were nice enough to move my furniture up 3 flights of stairs. 2 months after moving in I noticed that there was water damage on the top of my ceiling near the outside wall. I then noticed that it was leaking and that tiny parts of the ceiling were breaking apart and falling to the floor. Another issue was that the water pressure in my bathroom on the 2nd level was very low to non existent at times. I informed the same lady from their staff and she told me that she would let the maintenance man know. 1 week passed and nothing happened. I called back and she said she would remind the maintenance man. To make a long story short it took them 2 and a half months to finally come up and fix the water pressure after I told them I wasn't going to pay them rent. Currently they still have not fixed the leaking roof and the ceiling is sustaining more water damage. One of the windows came off the frame and hit me in the head while I was attempting to close it. When it fell off the frame it broke some latches inside the frame so now the window cannot open or close properly and lets a cold draft into the loft. I have informed them of this problem and they also have not fixed this issue for the past 7 months. The building has been open since 2005 and they just recently installed a fire alarm system and it is now 2007! In April of 2007 the Detroit Fire Dept came to the building and posted a vacate notice stating that there were life threatening code violations in the building. This incident was all over the local news stations. Somehow the owner of the building went to court and kept the building open but they are still in violation of city laws and are currently attempting to bring everything up to code. I would NOT recommend the Milwaukee Park Lofts to anyone!! Please save yourself the hassle and pay the extra money for a REAL professional Loft apartment complex in the city. Beware the owner of the Milwaukee Park Lofts also owns Brooklyn Park Lofts, Iron St Lofts, Greek Town Lofts, and a couple of others which I cannot recall. The company is called Boydell Development. |
