best kept secret of detroit loft living
Review Date: 4/18/2009 Reviewer: Anonymous
This is the best kept secret of all of Detroit. The Jonna company is a great company to rent from -- the maintenance is relatively quick. My only gripe is when I call the manager in charge of this unit, I NEVER get told when the maintenance person is going to come or even IF they are going to come. It would be really great if I could get some sort of phone call an hour or 2 before they are going to come. Or even a call to say that yes, they got my complaint and they are going to handle it... but hey, whatever, it always gets done. The windows are huge and let in all sorts of beautiful light. The floor plans are different in all units, but I had a closed off space in the back for a bedroom. The loft area itself is a little short on head space, but great for storage. The cabinets are those ugly standard white ones but I was watching them put in some nice new cabinets into some of the units. So maybe you will luck out. I am averaging $28 a month on electric (this includes heat). The furnace / AC unit is electric and don't let those other companies tell you gas is cheaper -- it is NOT. The furnace is pretty new too, definitely put in within the last 10 years. I love the layout. I love my loft. Everyone who comes in go "wow, this place is great!" But there are no photos online of this place, you just have to come in and check it out blindly. There is no leasing office on site, you just have to call a number on a sketchy looking bill board outside. The building itself is pretty secure. I've never had any problems. The walls are CONCRETE that means I DO NOT HEAR MY NEIGHBORS EVER! EVER!!!! It's a BEAUTIFUL thing! It's SO quiet. The washer/dryers are 2 a piece on each floor and they really suck ass. They are terrible and need to be replaced and they shouldn't cost so much -- about $1.50 for a wash and $1 for a dry, that doesn't dry. Terrible. The cost is a little pricey at first, but the appliances are all newer than the places you will find in Dearborn's giant complexes. All together for about 900 sq. feet, with electric, water, cable internet (remember there is no gas bill!) is about $900. My cable bill being my most expensive utility, and trash/water are included! The water pressure in this place is pretty bad, but just buy a new shower head meant to deal with low water pressure and problem solved! Dishwasher and microwave included -- both work as they should. Safest parking lot in Detroit. End of story. Had some problems with the gate not working earlier, but that seems to be totally resolved. |
